As I was having breakfast this morning in Huntington, WV, a woman in charge of breakfast at the hotel told me that after six years of living and working at this facility, she was being released in December. She lives on the property which means she will be losing her job and her home. In addition, she is a very youthful 70 years old.
I spoke with her about my course on Reinventing Yourself and invited her to sit in on my Women's Conference today. Due to this unstable economy and multiple job losses, many women (as well as men) are having to reinvent themselves in order to become marketable. The kind lady relayed to me a very common thread: "Who is going to hire a 70 year old woman?,
I have had to reinvent myself several times in my life due to relocation, divorce or illness in order to "start over" or "do what I really would like to do". The process entails dressing the part of the career that one wants, study and educate oneself, join and network within the industry one desires to enter and personal branding.
After I have coached someone in reinventing themselves, the change is remarkable! New passion, optimism and empowerment!
