Keynote Address, May 14, 2008

It is my privilege to speak at the upcoming Regional Meeting of the NorthEast Ohio Nurses Association. They have asked me to speak on "Overcoming Obstacles to Positive Self-Esteem". As I was thinking about this group, I recalled the first large group of professionals that I was asked to address...the Professional Woman Network International Conference in 2005. Before, I stepped out on the stage, I thought to myself...what am I doing here? What do I have to say to these amazing, accommplished, professional women that is going to mean anything? There they were: CEO's of their own companies, Certified Trainers, Professional Speakers, Doctors..but,

I stopped and said a little prayer...I asked God to speak through me to the person or persons who really needed to hear what I had to say. In the beginning, we laughed as I introduced myself through my stories and then, I got down to business. Half way through my presentation, I saw tears in the eyes of many of these professional women...and at the end, there was a long line waiting to speak to me personally and told me how my talk had touched them to their core.

Yes, we are professionals...we work so hard....we have families, problems with our children, our husband, our friends but, we put on our professional dress, our professional face and head out the door every morning...all with personal needs....

I look forward to speaking tomorrow because I have added something new to this talk...something so powerful in my own life, that I can't wait to see what impact it has on this audience. I am introducing the "science" behind positive thinking and positive words....I am mentioning the book that Oprah has given so much credibility to, THE SECRET, and then introducing the science behind it...and for those people of faith, the Biblical principles that back it up!!

Let me know what you think about Words...the impact they have had in your life...I'll let you know in a few days how this group responded!!

“At the beginning there was only The WORD, and THE WORD lived with the Lord, and THE WORD was the Lord." Bible, John 1:1

It’s a fact that the words shape our mind and we, as human beings, are shaped by the language. Language works as the translator of our culture and traditions. Words especially verbs carry out the significant of movement and action:
Also from the Bible: "...and THE VERB (Jesus) became BODY (INCARNATION) and lived between us..."

Then the verb as a word becomes a “being" full of significance. That’s why Psychologists promote: the cure trough the word"

Summarizing, the word, either written or spoken is a powerful instrument to deliver emotions, and to drain negative experiences.
In this line of thought, words as "beings" carry out our history and may release us or empower us as well.
(Writing is a way of concentrate and it organizes our internal words, journaling or keeping a memo or agenda will work out as a way of controlling those emotions that might be trying to control our lives. Ex: anger, frustration, jealousy, pain, etc)

Our name is the first word we hear at birth and the very day of our baptism, it concentrates our parents’ expectations. The baby names his father as a way of "controlling him”, the core moment when the law enters in his mind and the way that he controls the guiltiness and the threat of his competition for mother's love.
